Ottobock and International Paralympic Committee announce unique exhibition to celebrate Paralympic Games

paraNew interactive travelling exhibition to raise public awareness of Paralympic Sport and spread ‘Passion for Paralympics’ Ottobock Healthcare, the Official Technical Service Provider for the London 2012 Paralympic Games, and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), have today launched the ‘Passion for Paralympics’ travelling exhibition.

The exhibition, designed to raise awareness of Paralympic sport and the competing athletes in the run up to the London 2012 Paralympic Games, will tour the UK regions during the spring and summer offering the public the chance to learn about the technology, history and spirit behind the Games.

Passion for Paralympics Travelling Exhibition The exhibition includes stories of Paralympic and recreational athletes that use prosthetic limbs; an interactive display exploring the relationship between mood and gait; and a history of Ottobock’s 24 years of involvement with the Paralympic Movement. Interactive exhibits will provide visitors with a hands-on experience of the most exciting Paralympic sports.

These include one designed to enable visitors to feel the strength required to power a carbon fibre running blade and compare themselves with the Paralympic athletes that use them.

Visitors will also have the chance to take part in a hand cycling race and add their speed to a leader board where they can compare it with other racers around the country. They will also be able to get involved by pledging their support for the London 2012 Paralympic Games by sharing what they are passionate about and taking a picture to upload to a fan wall on the newly launched Passion for Paralympics website www.ottobock.com/paralympics.

Following the press launch in London, attended by IPC President Sir Philip Craven, the exhibition will open to the public in Glasgow between 17th April and 9th May, and Manchester between 14th and 27th May. It then opens in London at Westfield London shopping centre between 27th July and 12th August, before opening at the Olympic Park in Stratford for the London 2012 Paralympic Games. Ottobock Healthcare, a world leader in innovative solutions for people with limited mobility, has been a partner of the Paralympic Games since 1988.

As Official Technical Service Provider for the London 2012 Paralympic Games, Ottobock is responsible for providing over 80 technicians to provide repairs and technical service.

Olympic Games London 2012 More than 165 qualified athletes

olimpicLondon 2012 More than 165 qualified athletes, a lot of hopes - but also some preoccupations. London Olympic Games, in Italy, are seen as a big question mark. After the financial drop, the downfall of Berlusconi's government and the raise of a new premier - Mario Monti - who seems to be able to solve the crisis, Italy needs a new boost of enthusiasm.

The Olympic Games might be the right occasion to demonstrate to the whole world that the Country is still alive: that can fight – and win. Here's the enterprise – but it wouldn't be easy. Since Atlanta 1996, the number of medals won by the Italian teams during the Olympic Games is going down. When in Atlanta the “azzurri” won 35 medals, 12 years after, in Beijing, their “war chest” was only composed of 27 medals. In three words: an unstoppable decline.

Now it's London's turn. Times are changing – somebody says. Is it true? “We're getting ready”, says Giovanni Petrucci, the president of the Italian Olympic Committee. “London 2012 will be an unforgettable edition of the Olympic Games – that's what we hope”.

But facts are facts, and Mr Petrucci doesn't hide them. In 2008, the athletes who flew from Rome to Beijing were more than 300. The time is not over – it's true – but it's running out.

At the present moment – as we said - the Italian athletes who are going to London are only 166: a little more than an half, compared with the Chinese edition of the Games. And the bad news are not finished - not yet. For the first time since 1980, the Italian under-21 football team will be absent.

The basketball team and the handball team will share the same destiny. “It's a big pity”, says Mr Petrucci. And he's right: in 2004 the Italian basketball team won the iron medal – but these times are clearly over.

The exceptions are quite rare, but do exist: one of them is represented by the women's volleyball team, that has just won the World Cup - automatically getting the olympic pass. Italian “Settebello” - the men's water polo team – has gained the World Championship and will be present in London too. But it's not enough: “I'm quite worried – admits Giovanni Petrucci -. Our way will not be easy”. What about the good news? The best Italian athletes are considered the swimmers.

Federica Pellegrini – 24 years old, from Venice – won her first gold medal in Beijing. She also broke three world records and is probably the best female swimmer on Earth (“I'm in top shape”, she said some weeks ago – and it's not a lie). Her fiancé, Filippo Magnini, is highly-rated too, exactly like her former boyfriend, Luca Marin.

The love affairs of these three young champions have excited the Italian tabloids for months and months. The general hope, now, is that they'll excite the sports newspapers too.

An other promising discipline – according with the Italian sport commentators – is fencing. Valentina Vezzali won five gold medals – the first in Atlanta, in 1996, the last in Beijing, four years ago.

coniNow she's 38 years old, but she has no doubt: “In London, I'll do other feats”, she promises. After the Olympic Games she's going to end her professional career – so, what she needs is a real happy ending. In the recent World fencing Championships, that took place in Sicily in the last october, the Italian athletes won hands down a lot of medals.“In London, we'll do the same”, they said - and it's a quite realistic dream.

However, reading the Italian newspapers, you'll discover that the biggest polemics about London 2012 have nothing to do with sports.

“Who'll be the national standard-bearer during the Games?” - here's the most talked-about question in the “Belpaese”. Some months ago, Federica Pellegrini caused an uproar, saying: “If they'll propose me to become the standard-bearer, I'll refuse!” “It's too hard”, she explained. “It should be an honour to represent your flag!”, was the curt answer of the Italian Olympic Committee. After this episode, a lot of athletes presented themselfes as candidates, but the name of the Italian standard-bearer has not be found yet. London is coming – but Rome is still in deep water.

Welcome at the English Olympic Game 2012

Welcome at the English Olympic Game 2012

Missing over 300 days at the London Olympics 2012 , have not yet started but have already 'an event.

The Olympic village in Stratford in the east of London, a poor area, youth gangs and Jack the Ripper has been an unexpected recovery. It 'became the area of the Olympic Games, the area of sport, which for a month will host' all athletes in the world. In just over 2km square, teams of men day and night, holiday and work, have made the Olympic center and restored the area. A colossal undertaking, and if we look at the costs we realize that London was spared on Beijing 2008, 9.3 billion pounds against 36 billion pounds it costs to host the Beijing Games. London has already won his challenge. In an economic crisis, London has been able to accomplish with good materials, sports facilities, hotels, shops of luxury at a competitive cost, these games will be remembered as the Games of the crisis, and also for high security systems ever anti-terrorism applied throughout the history of the Olympics.

Londoners remember well that the attack that caused 60 deaths of Muslims in the London Underground were just after the award of the Olympic Games to the city. The Olympic Park in January will be 'closed, armored like a fortress, a maximum security checked inch by inch by police and secret agents. It also begins and during the duration of the Olympics will be very strict security measures for all persons wishing to enter the Olympic village.

The organizers for years thought to security measures, electronic methods to eradicate the bad guys, everything was designed from the beginning, everything was calculated from the time in the field of Stratford there were still mounds of dirt and weeds.

Welcome at the English Olympic Game 2012

Now those mountains of earth were modeled to create a sport resorts of the most 'important in Europe. Designed and built in record time, but above all for saving, and its survival, because 'the park after the Games will be' a money generating machine, it will not be 'closed or abandoned, but granted to the city' and who will want to 'sports , a colossal work which will grow 'over time, and we are sure will not go' to ruin. Just think how many jobs from a structure like that and you will find that the organizers did not linvestimento 'was only designed for the Olympics 2012 , but also to make it live for a long time, no more giving in London' as a slum Stratdford was a time, but a new and rich area.

The Olympics in numbers.

Welcome at the English Olympic Game 2012

July 27, 2012 August 12, 2012, cost 9.3 billion pounds, sold tickets for games for 8 million and 800,000, 17,000 people will be present among athletes and staff at the Olympic village, utilizzaranno 800,000 people every day to go by public transport the village, 10 lines that will transport to Stratford (but will be increased), 205 nations will participate.

Two weeks ago, and 'opened the shopping center of Stratford Westifiel the most' big in Europe, you think that 100 thousand visitors per day storm the shops.Definitely not missing the fun.

Sanchez, Pastore, Cavani: Serie A’s temptations for Premier League

aguero The Premier League top clubs are looking at Serie A, but are dreaming in Spanish. Next Premiership star could come from Italy, but he won’t be an Italian player. Three young, talented and very expensive South American footballers are on the list of English top club managers: we’re talking about Alexis Sanchez, Javier Pastore and Edinson Cavani.

They all come from an astonishing season in Italy and they all are playing the Copa America in Argentina this month. Wonder Boy. If you are a Manchester United fan and – after two seasons - you are still missing Cristiano Ronaldo, don’t worry. Maybe this summer Red Devils could find a man who can replace CR7 in your heart: Alexis Sanchez.

The Chilean forward’s dribble skill has always reminded to the Portuguese’s one, but in the last season Sanchez improved in determination and efficacy too, above all in front of the goal. El Niño Maravilla (the Wonder Boy) played an incredible season in Serie A with Udinese, leading bianconeri to a historical fourth position and to the Champions League qualifying rounds.

Sanchez owes most of his improvements to Francesco Guidolin, his manager at Udinese. Seeing the Chilean potentialities, Guidolin turned him from wing to forward, placing Sanchez closer to the goal area. A really good call. Sanchez scored 13 goals and was elected Serie A most valuable player of the year by sports newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

Sanchez, Pastore, Cavani: Serie A’s temptations for Premier League

Now, at the age of 23, the Wonder Boy is ready for a new big challenge: he said Barcelona is his dream, but also United and City are in the running to sign him. The problem for Ferguson and Mancini is the same: money. Udinese’s boss, Giampaolo Pozzo, was clear: “Sanchez is worth 50 million euros”. Zinedine or Kakà? Same price of another Serie A star, Javier Pastore.

Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Malaga are interested in the Argentinian ace, as Palermo’s boss Maurizio Zamparini revealed: “I’m not going to sell him for less than 50 million”. This rating could seem too high for a player who didn’t win anything yet in his career, but looking at Pastore moving on the pitch you can understand Zamparini’s request.

El Flaco (the Slim) was compared to a mix between Brazilian Kakà and French Zinedine Zidane for his speed and ball control, and he can be proud of Diego Armando Maradona’s words: during the last World Cup, el Pibe de Oro defined the 22 years old player “footballing cheeky”, hinting at his creativity and courage on the pitch.

At his second season in Italy, Pastore scored 11 goals, becoming Palermo’s top goal scorer and one of the strongest offensive midfielder in Serie A. Before his sacking, Carlo Ancelotti was pushing to have Pastore at Chelsea, but now the closest club to his signature seems to be Real Madrid. “Real and Malaga are favorites” said Zamparini, “but Manchester City is also interested at Pastore, as well as United and Chelsea”.

The auction for el Flaco has just begun, the starting price is 50 million euros (45 million pounds) but could be higher if Pastore will be able to become a star in Copa America. The good guy. Edinson Cavani, instead, seems to be priceless. The 24 years old Uruguayan striker isn’t on sale, Napoli’s boss Aurelio De Laurentiis said. “100 million euros wouldn’t be enough”, Azzurri’s president claimed. However, United and City keep following el Matador, the forward who surprised Serie A scoring 26 goals last season and leading Napoli to a Champions League’s spot after 21 years. Roberto Mancini admitted his interest in the Uruguayan - and also in his teammates Ezequiel Lavezzi and Marek Hamsik – and maybe Manchester City is the only club which can afford De Laurentiis’ request. It’s high, but justified if you look Cavani’s potential.

El Matador can play every position in attack and score in every way, combining a huge team spirit to an impressive technical skill, that is as big as his faith in God. The Uruguayan forward, in fact, is member of the Evangelical community. “Napoli is the team which God chose for me”, Cavani wrote in his autobiography. And probably City and United would need a miracle to bring him to the Premier League.
