London- Fabio Capello resigned following a meeting with FA chairman David Bernstein and general secretary Alex Horne at Wembley Stadium.
The discussions focused on the FA board's decision to remove the England team captaincy from John Terry, and Fabio Capello's response through an Italian broadcast interview. "In a meeting for over an hour, Fabio's resignation was accepted and he will leave the post of England manager with immediate effect." Bernstein said the resignation was the right course of action.[photo topnews.in]
Capello, who led the national team since December of 2007, has been questioned by the media to a saying of Rai, in defense of Terry, during the program "Five minutes of recovery." Capello said Terry left his captain. Hence the controversy: the coach of the national anti-F and then has to go, the headline pretty much unanimous in the British press. In the same interview, the Italian coach had, however, defended the actions of the Fa recognizing the right to intervene in a case like this.
After the resignation announcement, Harry Redknapp was immediately installed as the favourite to replace him. However, the Spurs boss is contracted to the White Hart Lane club and would require consent from Spurs chairman Daniel Levy to take on the role on a part-time basis for the summer event.
Fabio Capello's resignation seems to pave the way for a succession by the current manager of Tottenham, Harry Redknapp, acquitted of the charge of tax evasion in a day.
