London Fashion Week 2012

London Collections: Men will promote the breadth of British menswear design to a global audience embracing heritage brands, iconic designers and emerging talent as well as championing British craft, skills, textiles and HRH's campaign for Wool. Spearheaded by Dylan Jones, editor of GQ, aFashion 2012 Menswear Committee spanning British style and culture is curating the three day event to celebrate the worldwide impact of British talent in menswear.

The event will combine shows, presentations, exhibitions, events and digital programming for a global trade and consumer audience. Over 55 designers have been confirmed to participate in London Collections: Men include iconic British designers Margaret Howell and Paul Smith, heritage brands such as Aquascutum and Savile Row tailors including Richard James and E. Tautz. Calvin Klein, Paul Smith and Tom Ford will all host events during this period.

At the London fashion week , London’s emerging designers will be showcasing including MANand NEWGEN MEN designers, both of which are sponsored by TOPMAN. The TOPMAN Designshow, Fashion East and Fashion Forward designers will also showcase. London Collections: Men will form part of Fashion 2012, a central platform under which the industry is able to showcase and celebrate British fashion. The 23-year-old from Tottenham won best British female and best album for 21.Her album, 21, is the biggest-seller of the 21st century, shifting 17 million copies so far.

Speaking after the podium ceremony, Chris Hoy said: “What a weekend! Really happy to finish up with a gold in the sprint and overall top nation. Also picked up the overall world cup winner in sprint and keirin.

A lot of hard work to be done before the Games but this is a huge confidence boost.” Great Britain concluded four days of top class action in London with Gold for Chris Hoy in the sprint and Bronze for Laura Trott in the Omnium.

The GB Men’s Team Pursuit squad of Clancy, Burke, Kennaugh and Thomas took silver in the final against Australia while Victoria Pendleton and Jess Varnish battled in a gruelling three round Keirin programme, with Pendleton reaching the final while Varnish reached the minor final.

If Hoy was the crowd’s hero, Trott was its undoubted heroine on the final day of competition. Poised in third position after three events, Trott looked good for bronze, and a great performance in the pursuit saw her close in on the silver medal position, with Australian Edmondson and Canadian Whitten ahead.

A new newspaper for Rupert Murdoch's :” Sun on Sunday will be launched "very soon" We will build on the Sun’s proud heritage by launching the Sun on Sunday very soon.

Following the arrest of several senior journalists at the paper this week on suspicion of making corrupt payments to public officials, he added: "I've worked alongside you for 43 years to build the Sun into one of the world's finest papers. It is a part of me and is one of our proudest achievements. The Sun occupies a unique and important position within News Corporation."

A source told the Press Association that the absence of Murdoch's younger son James, who is chairman of News International, was not as significant as could be made out.

The source told PA: "James Murdoch has other commitments and is out of the country, and asked Lachlan to accompany his father." Tom Mockridge, chief executive of News International, the UK newspapers division of News Corp, told staff at the weekend that Murdoch had personally told him of his "total commitment to continue to own and publish" The Sun. The National Union of Journalists (NUJ) said it had been approached by a group of Sun journalists and was exploring ways to support them.

With two days to go until the start of the UCI Track Cycling World Cup presented by Samsung, the world’s best track cyclists have arrived in London and started their training in the London 2012 Velodrome.

Some of the riders took the opportunity to try out the track today ahead of the start of the four-day competition on Thursday 16 February.

Five Olympicchampions and 16 world champions, including Olympic gold medallists Sir Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton, will be competing at the event from 16–19 February. The competition will also feature current Sprint World Champion Anna Meares (Australia), Guo Shuang (China), Maximilian Levy (Germany), and Robert Forstemann (Germany) who is currently ranked World Cup number one in Sprint and Team Sprint. 

The Great Britain team also has strong medal contenders with Jason Kenny, Geraint Thomas and Ed Clancy. The competition will give top cyclists the opportunity to test the Velodrome in competitive conditions and give more than 25,000 spectators the chance to enjoy world-class sport at a London 2012 venue. Pat McQuaid, President of the UCI said: ‘The stakes will be extremely high in London this weekend. ‘This London event is also one of the last occasions to gain points towards the UCI Olympic Track ranking, so important for those nations still trying to secure starting spots for London 2012. And of course, as a London 2012 test event, this weekend is a vital test for the organisers and for the athletes wanting to get a feel for the Velodrome.

The Velodrome is the most sustainable venue in the Olympic Park terms of design and construction. Sustainable choices have been made wherever possible; from the sourcing of wood certified by the Forest Stewardship Council to be used on the track and external cladding, to the installation of a 100% naturally ventilated system.

This ventilation creates a perfect track-level temperature, eliminating the need for air conditioning. The design of the venue makes optimal use of natural light, reducing the need for electric lighting. It also has a low cable net roof system, creating an amazing atmosphere for spectators whilst reducing the amount of space to heat and ventilate.

Olympic cyclist Chris Hoy and Team GB were consulted during the design process to ensure that the best conditions for athletes were delivered in the Velodrome.

This London Fashion Week, starting 17th February 2012, the British Fashion Counci (BFC) continues to unite fashion and digital innovation, encouraging engagement with this global fashion showcase through social media, live streaming and pioneering new technologies. The digital schedule is the strongest yet: 44 shows will be live streamed – 22 from the The Courtyard Show Space at Somerset House, 12 from the new Embankment Galleries Show Space at Somerset House, 8 courtesy of Topshop from their official Topshop venue, 1 Old Billingsgate Walk, as well as shows around the city including Burberry Prorsum and Roksanda Ilincic.

Anyone can watch the shows at home (www.londonfashionweek.co.uk/live) or on the outdoor LED screen in the courtyard at Somerset House. As part of their role as official digital showcasing partner of London Fashion Week, Canon are sponsoring the Cinema and Screening Room for the first time. The BFC Fash/On Film sponsored by River Island panel has curated a dedicated fashion film programme, as part of the Digital Schedule, to be screened in the Canon Cinema each day of London Fashion Week, with highlights including an afternoon of animation and six menswear films by director Jez Tozer. Members of the panel will host Q&A sessions at screenings with directors, film makers and designers.

The London Fashion Week Timeline will take to Twitter, keeping track of the shows throughout the week with live updates of start times (#LFWtimeline). For the first time, we will have a dedicated photographer backstage at London Fashion Week to capture a ‘behind-the-scenes’ look for broadcast exclusively on CBS Outdoor UK’s network of Cross-track Projection (XTP) screens on London Underground platforms.

This will be projected alongside highlights from the @LondonFashionWk Twitter feed and a news feed. This activity is part of an ongoing partnership with CBS Outdoor UK. Aurasma will be bringing LFW to digital life this season. Aurasma is a new technology that’s capable of recognising images and objects in the real world and seamlessly integrating them with rich video content and audio. Using their mobile device, visitors simply need to download the free Aurasma Lite app and then hold it over the LFW image, at which point it will spring to life and bring you exclusive video content.

For the very first time, Exhibition passes will provide a constant stream of live content – linking them directly to our latest Tweets through Aurasma. This is the first time this technology has been used. Covers of The LFW Daily newspaper will transform into exclusive video content.
