The Salento International Film Festival SIFF
October 1, 2010
Indian Ambassador in Italy Min. SAURABH KUMAR
The seventh Salento International Film Festival is now over and I hope you have been able to take part to the exciting and various program we have offered this year. The high quality of international films presented has been accompanied by a series of amazing collateral events.
We have been honoured by the visit of the Indian Ambassador in Italy Min. SAURABH KUMAR and his First Secretary R. K. AGNIHOTRI, who have come to say thank you for the work done by SIFF in promoting Indian culture and cinema.
We have been able to present for the first time in Salento a group of original Mariachi from Mexico and of Banghra Dance from India, who have lived up the streets of our town for a few days. Not to forget the intriguing night of the Burlesque show by Roxy Rose and the classy concert of Stace England and the Salt Kings from Illinois.
Special guests from Italy and abroad have given the opportunity to our public to talk directly to producers, directors and actors. New partnerships and projects have developed from SIFF 2010 and we are now working on them.
The planning and organization for next year has started, and call for entries for the 2011 SIFF are open from today.
We look forward to review once again a wide selection of works from all over the world representing the best of the independent cinema worldwide.
Sincerely,
Gigi Campanile
Artistic Director

The seventh Salento International Film Festival
A very romantic evening at the Italian Cultural Institute
with a concert featuring classic neapolitan songs played by Vito Nicola Paradiso at the guitar with his recital “ A Maggia de na chitarra” ( The magic of a guitar). The notes embraced the audience bringing back memories, songs 100 years old still in people’s hearts. It has not been unusual to see quite a few guests following the songs with a nod of the head or just keeping the rhythm with the foot.
Un forgettable songs like “ ‘O Sole Mio”, or “ Reginella” and “ Malafemmena”, where beautifully played with a very refined “ finger picking” technique, executed by Maestro Paradiso, delicate like a butterfly touching the strings with her wings. At the back of Vito Nicola Paradiso, a screen illustrated the several songs in this concert with images depicting Naples and old glories like Toto’, Renato Carosone, still in every Italian’s memories.
Vito Nicola Paradiso is a teacher at a music academy and he held several concerts all around Europe, the only Italian to attend the “ Dublin Guitar Week”.
He is also like to find new ways to teach music and he is the author of a method that it has been used by many music teachers in Europe and America, both North and South.
It has been impossible for Maestro Paradiso to leave the stage after ending his set and he has been called back several times to perform more songs.
A great evening thanks to the Italian Cultural Institute that always brings to London the most amazing artists to perform in its elegant rooms.
